European amber, in six standing references.

Read in chronological sequence, the six pillars run from c. 1500 BC to the present day, covering antiquity, the medieval and early-modern craft, the Königsberg masters, the State Manufactory and the Amber Room. Each article is self-contained.

The Amber Road, c. 1500 BC – AD 500

The ancient corridor of routes that carried Baltic succinite from the Sambian and Pomeranian coasts to Mycenae, the Iron Age princely tombs, Roman Aquileia and Carnuntum, the Nero expedition of AD 60, and the Aestii of Tacitus's Germania 45. European amber craft before 1926

The European tradition from the Maglemose elk-head at Egemarke (c. 7000 BC) through the Roman Amber Road, the medieval paternoster guilds at Bruges (1302) and Lübeck, the Danzig peak under Maucher and Heise, and the long industrialisation under Stantien and Becker. The Königsberg amber masters, 1563–1945

Institutional history of the SBM through nineteen years. The Amber Room (Bernsteinzimmer), 1701–2003

The amber chamber from the Berlin original under Frederick I, through the 1716 diplomatic gift by Friedrich Wilhelm I to Peter the Great, the 1763 Tsarskoye Selo completion, the 1941 dismantling and Königsberg installation, the disappearance of 1945, eighty years of searches, and the 2003 reconstruction at Tsarskoye Selo.
